How urgently should I treat bedroom mold for health?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Park. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, but it’s spread across a good section of the wall. Given the humidity lately, how urgently do I need to get this professionally treated before it affects our health?

Black mold in a bedroom requires immediate attention, especially with children experiencing respiratory symptoms. The humid climate in Jumeirah Park, combined with year-round AC use, creates ideal conditions for mold growth behind furniture where condensation and poor airflow occur.

You should arrange for a professional inspection within the next few days. The inspector will identify the moisture source—often a small plumbing leak or condensation from an AC unit—and assess the extent of the growth, which can spread inside wall cavities. Do not attempt to clean it yourself, as disturbing it can release a high concentration of spores into the air your family breathes.

For confirmed cases, remediation should follow Dubai Municipality guidelines, which involve containment of the area, HEPA-filtered air scrubbing, and safe removal of contaminated materials. A post-remediation verification test from an independent lab is the only way to confirm the space is safe. Until then, keep the children out of the room and ensure good ventilation throughout the home.
