How urgently should I treat mold making my kids cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it when we moved the furniture to rearrange, and it looks like a large black patch that's been there a while. How urgently do I need to get this professionally treated, especially with the high humidity lately?

Treat this urgently, as respiratory symptoms in children linked to visible mold require prompt action. The combination of Dubai's high humidity and constant AC use creates ideal conditions for mold growth behind furniture where air doesn't circulate.

You should arrange for a professional inspection and remediation. Do not attempt to clean a large patch yourself, as disturbing it can release a high concentration of spores into your air, potentially worsening the cough. A proper assessment will identify the moisture source—often condensation from an AC unit or a small, hidden leak—and the mold type.

In the interim, improve ventilation in the room by running an exhaust fan and keep the AC on to lower humidity. Ensure children spend minimal time in that room until it is professionally addressed. Reputable providers in Dubai should be able to show certification and provide before-and-after lab testing to verify the air quality is safe.
