Is AC leak causing dangerous mold in Jumeirah Village Circle?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet, and now I'm seeing a few small black spots in the corner. It's been crazy humid lately and I'm worried it's spreading behind the wall. How urgently do I need to get a professional to deal with this before it becomes a major health issue?

An AC leak causing damp carpet in JVC is a high-priority issue, especially with our current humidity. The black spots are a clear sign of active mold growth, and it is almost certainly spreading behind the wall and under the carpet padding where you can't see it.

The combination of constant moisture from the leak and Dubai's high ambient humidity creates an ideal environment for mold to proliferate rapidly. You need to address the root cause immediately. First, have an AC technician fix the leak and drain line blockage to stop the water source. Simply cleaning the visible spot will not solve the problem.

For the mold, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to map the full extent of the water damage and hidden growth behind walls. Remediation involves extracting water, removing and replacing the wet carpet pad, and properly treating the affected areas. Attempting a DIY fix often just spreads spores.

While not all mold is highly toxic, any uncontrolled indoor growth can cause significant irritation, worsen allergies and asthma, and compromise indoor air quality. Given the scale is likely larger than it appears, acting now prevents a much larger and more expensive remediation project later. Companies with their own microbiology lab can provide air and surface samples to identify the species and confirm the environment is returned to a healthy state after cleanup.
