Is AC mold an emergency with a baby?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in our Jumeirah villa has been leaking a small amount of water onto the carpet for maybe a week or so. I just moved the unit and saw the carpet underneath is damp and there's a small patch of black mold starting to form. My wife is really worried about it, especially with the baby crawling around. Is this something we need to get an emergency repair for today, or can it wait a few days for our regular maintenance guy?

Yes, this is an emergency that requires immediate professional attention, especially with an infant in the home.

The primary concern isn't just the AC unit itself, but the active water intrusion and the resulting mold growth on the carpet. The damp carpet provides a continuous food source for mold, allowing it to proliferate and release spores into your indoor air. For a baby with a developing respiratory system, exposure to these spores can significantly increase the risk of allergic reactions, asthma development, and other respiratory issues. The UAE's humid climate acts as an accelerator for mold growth, turning a small patch into a major problem very quickly.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself. Disturbing the mold without proper containment can aerosolize the spores, spreading the contamination throughout your villa. Your regular AC maintenance guy is not equipped for mold remediation. This requires a certified mold inspection to assess the full extent of the moisture damage and microbial growth, often using tools like moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras.

I strongly recommend you call a professional environmental company today. They will safely contain the area, remove the contaminated carpet section, address the AC leak at its source, and ensure the area is properly dried and hygienized to Dubai Municipality standards.

Please call us for an emergency inspection at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Do not delay with a baby crawling on that floor.
