Is AC mold making my family sick in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I suspect our AC might be the culprit. I was cleaning the vent in our master bedroom in Jumeirah and noticed some black dust around the edges, and the room has a damp smell even when the AC is running. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed this. How urgently do I need to get this checked for hidden mold before it affects our health?

Based on your description, what you're experiencing are classic indicators of a microbial issue within your AC system, likely Aspergillus or Cladosporium growth. The black dust is a significant red flag; it's not just dirt but a concentrated accumulation of spores and fungal fragments. The persistent damp smell, even during operation, confirms active biological growth, as the evaporator coil and condensate drain pan are prime habitats for mold in Dubai's high-humidity climate.

For residents in Jumeirah, where sea air increases ambient moisture, AC units work harder and are more prone to condensation issues if not meticulously maintained. This isn't just a cleanliness problem; it's an indoor air quality hazard. The prolonged coughing in your children is a serious health concern, as continuous exposure to aerosolized mycotoxins and spores can exacerbate and even cause respiratory conditions like allergic rhinitis and asthma.

You need a professional inspection urgently. DIY cleaning often disturbs the colony, causing a massive release of spores throughout your ductwork. Our certified inspectors use borescopes to visually inspect inside ducts and walls, and we perform air and surface sampling to identify the spore types and concentration levels, which is critical for determining the correct remediation protocol as per UAE Green Building regulations.

Do not delay. For a proper assessment and to discuss remediation options, please call our team at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. We can schedule a comprehensive inspection to identify the source and protect your family's health.
