Is AC vent black mold dangerous for kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from black mold growing along the edges of the AC vent in our master bedroom. It’s been getting worse since the weather got more humid a couple of months ago. I tried wiping it with bleach but it just came back darker. Is this something I absolutely need to hire a professional for, and roughly how much would a proper mold remediation for one room cost in Dubai?

Black mold in AC vents can certainly cause or worsen coughing in children, as their respiratory systems are more sensitive. The humid Dubai climate creates ideal conditions for mold growth in AC systems, where condensation provides constant moisture. The type of mold matters, but any visible growth releasing spores into the bedroom air is a legitimate health concern.
Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces and often drives mold growth deeper. Proper remediation requires the mold colony to be completely removed at its source, which is usually inside the duct or on the evaporator coil, not just wiped from the visible vent edge. For a child's persistent cough linked to a visible AC mold problem, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. They use borescopes to inspect inside the ducts and on the coil, identify the moisture source, and contain the area during removal to prevent spores from spreading throughout your home. Remediation for a single room's system is a common scope of work. The final cost is driven by the extent of the infestation inside the unit and ductwork, which must be assessed first. Always request a detailed assessment and a post-remediation verification test from an independent lab to confirm the space is clear. |
