Is AED 1,500 reasonable for mold removal in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our wardrobe in the bedroom has started showing these black and greenish spots, and it’s been getting worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago. We’re in an older building in Bur Dubai and I’m worried it might be spreading inside the wall. I got one quote for AED 1,500 to treat the area, but is that a reasonable price for proper mold removal, or is this something I can tackle myself with products from ACE Hardware?

That quote is within a common range for professional remediation of a localized wall mold issue in Dubai, but the price alone doesn't tell you if it's reasonable. The critical factor is what the service includes.

For a situation like yours in an older Bur Dubai building, where the mold is likely inside the wall cavity, a surface-level treatment is insufficient. Proper remediation must involve identifying and correcting the moisture source—often condensation from AC units or a small plumbing leak—and removing affected drywall or plaster to prevent regrowth. A credible quote should include containment of the area to prevent spores from spreading, HEPA vacuuming, antimicrobial treatment of the cavity, and finally, addressing the humidity source.

With visible growth that's worsening, a DIY approach from ACE is not advisable. Consumer bleach or mold sprays only remove surface discoloration and will not address the colony growing within the wall. Disturbing it without proper containment can aerosolize spores throughout your bedroom.

The most prudent first step is a professional inspection, often offered at a minimal cost, to assess the extent of the damage behind the wardrobe. This will determine if the quoted price is fair for the actual scope of work required. Any provider should be able to explain their process for moisture diagnosis, containment, and verification that the root cause is fixed.
