Is AED 5,000 a fair price for mold removal?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a spreading black patch behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom, probably from the AC condensation. My wife's allergies have been awful lately and we're worried it's the mold. I got one quote for a full treatment and dehumidifier installation that was over AED 5,000, which seems insane. Is this a realistic price for a villa in Al Barsha, or should I get more quotes?

Based on the symptoms you describe and the climate in Dubai, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. The combination of visible black mold, your wife's allergic reactions, and the likely source being AC condensation points to a significant issue that requires expert assessment. In the UAE's humid environment, AC units are a primary source of moisture if not properly maintained, leading to rapid mold growth like Stachybotrys chartarum (black mold) behind furniture and within wall cavities.

Regarding the quote of AED 5,000, it is difficult to determine fairness without a detailed assessment. For a villa in Al Barsha, the price could be realistic if the contamination is extensive, requiring containment, professional HEPA-filtered air scrubbing, antimicrobial remediation of the affected structure, and a post-remediation verification test to ensure the spore count is safe. The inclusion of a dehumidifier is a critical long-term control measure for Dubai's climate. However, this price could also be high for a more contained area.

We strongly advise obtaining at least two more detailed quotes from certified mold remediation specialists. Any reputable company should provide a comprehensive scope of work breakdown. For an accurate diagnosis and a competitive, transparent quote, we recommend contacting Saniservice. Their certified inspectors can conduct air and surface sampling to identify the spore types and concentration, which is essential for designing an effective remediation plan.
