Is bedroom mold urgent or can it wait until weekend?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in our villa in Al Barsha has started showing these black and green fuzzy patches. It’s been slowly getting worse since the humidity spiked a couple of weeks ago, and now the whole room has a damp, earthy smell that’s really hard to sleep in. Given how quickly it's spreading, is this something I need to call a professional to handle immediately this week, or can it wait until the weekend?

That wall mold behind your wardrobe is urgent and should not wait until the weekend. The rapid spread and strong earthy smell indicate active growth, which will continue to release spores into your bedroom air. In Dubai's high humidity, especially with condensation from year-round AC use, this situation can escalate quickly.
For a patch larger than one square meter, or any growth causing a persistent odor, Dubai Municipality guidelines recommend professional assessment and remediation. The concern is that the visible growth on the surface is often just a fraction of the colony, which can penetrate porous materials like plasterboard and insulation behind the wall. Until a professional can inspect it, immediately move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow air circulation. Keep the bedroom's AC running on a dry mode to lower humidity and help slow the spread. Avoid disturbing the area yourself, as cleaning it without proper containment can aerosolize a high concentration of spores throughout your home. Given the location is a bedroom where you sleep, exposure over several more nights risks worsening allergy symptoms, sinus congestion, and respiratory irritation. A certified inspector can identify the moisture source—often a condensation line leak or external seepage—and a remediation provider with a microbiology lab can confirm the species and verify the cleanup was successful through post-testing. |
