Is black mold an emergency for my coughing kids?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing a lot for the past two weeks, and I just found what looks like black mold behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. The wall feels a bit damp, and it's on the side that faces the outside of our villa in Mirdif. Is this something I need to get an emergency specialist for right away, or is it okay to wait a few days for our building maintenance to take a look?

Based on the symptoms you describe—persistent coughing in children and visible black mold growth on a damp exterior wall in a villa in Mirdif—this situation requires immediate professional attention and should be treated with a high degree of urgency.

The combination of health symptoms and a confirmed moisture source is a significant concern. The dampness on the exterior-facing wall is a classic symptom of condensation, a prevalent issue in Dubai's climate due to the extreme temperature differential between the humid outdoor air and chilled interior spaces from year-round AC use. This creates the perfect environment for mold, including types like Stachybotrys chartarum (often referred to as "black mold"), which can produce mycotoxins and are associated with respiratory irritation, persistent coughs, and other allergic reactions, particularly in children and immunocompromised individuals.

This is not a matter for general building maintenance to handle. Standard maintenance crews are not equipped for proper mold assessment or remediation. Improper handling, such as attempting to wipe or scrub it, can aerosolize the spores, drastically increasing airborne contamination and exacerbating respiratory issues.

UAE regulations and best practices for indoor environmental quality mandate that such issues be addressed by certified professionals. We strongly recommend you arrange for a professional mold inspection immediately. A certified inspector will conduct air and surface sampling to identify the species and concentration levels, perform thermal imaging and moisture mapping to locate the exact source of the water intrusion, and provide a detailed protocol for safe, effective remediation.

Do not wait. For the health of your family, contact a specialist. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an emergency inspection and assessment.
