Is black mold behind shower seal urgent in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing more than usual and I finally pulled back the rubber seal around the shower in our Jumeirah apartment. There's a ton of black mold growing behind it that I never knew was there. It looks like it's been building up for months, maybe since the weather got so humid. Is this something I need to get a professional to handle urgently, or can I clean it myself this weekend?

Based on your description, this situation warrants immediate professional attention. The presence of extensive black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum) behind the shower seal, combined with your children's respiratory symptoms, indicates a significant indoor air quality issue that should not be handled as a simple DIY cleaning project.

In Dubai's climate, high humidity and constant air conditioning use create a perfect environment for mold proliferation. The mold you see is merely the surface colony; its root system (hyphae) has likely penetrated deep into the porous grout and possibly the wall substrate behind the tiles. DIY cleaning with bleach or common household products will only remove the surface discoloration, leaving the root structure intact to regrow quickly. More critically, aggressive scrubbing can aerosolize a high concentration of toxic mold spores, drastically increasing your family's exposure and potentially contaminating other areas of your apartment.

We strongly recommend a professional mold inspection. Our certified inspectors use moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and air quality tests to determine the full extent of the infestation and the moisture source. Remediation involves isolating the area with negative air pressure, safely removing the contaminated materials, and using industrial-grade antimicrobial solutions to eliminate the mold at its root.

Given the health symptoms present, this is an urgent matter. For a comprehensive assessment and remediation plan, please contact our team at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
