Is black mold behind wardrobe making my kids sick?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black spots I just found behind our bedroom wardrobe in Silicon Oasis. We keep the AC on most of the time, but I pulled the wardrobe out to find a cable and the entire back of it and the wall are covered in this fuzzy black mold. How urgently do I need to get this professionally cleaned, and is it safe for my kids to sleep in there tonight?

Based on your description, the situation you are describing is a serious indoor air quality issue that requires immediate attention. The fuzzy black growth behind the wardrobe is highly likely to be a mold colony, and its location on a wall suggests a significant moisture problem, most probably from condensation due to your AC unit's operation—a very common issue in Dubai's climate where continuous cooling leads to cold surfaces that attract humid air, causing water to form.
The coughing in your children is a classic symptom of exposure to mold spores, which become aerosolized and are inhaled. Certain types of black mold, such as Stachybotrys chartarum, can produce mycotoxins that are particularly irritating to the respiratory system, especially in children. It is not safe for your children to sleep in that room tonight, as prolonged exposure will continue to exacerbate their symptoms. The urgency for professional remediation is high. Do not attempt to clean this yourself, as disturbing the colony without proper containment will release a massive amount of spores throughout your home. UAE regulations and best practices require that such biocontamination be handled by licensed professionals using advanced containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatments to ensure complete removal and prevent cross-contamination. I strongly recommend you contact a certified mold inspection and remediation company immediately. Saniservice specializes in these exact scenarios in the UAE. They can conduct a thorough inspection, identify the moisture source, and execute a safe, effective remediation protocol.
