Is black mold behind wardrobe making my kids sick?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing nonstop for the past two weeks, and I just found a bunch of black, fuzzy spots behind their bedroom wardrobe. We live in a villa in Mirdif and I think the problem started after that really humid spell we had last month. I'm really worried about their health. What's the fastest way to get this tested and cleaned properly in Dubai?

Based on your description of the black, fuzzy spots behind the wardrobe and the persistent coughing in your children, it is highly probable that you are dealing with a significant mold infestation. The humid spell you mentioned is a classic catalyst. In Dubai's climate, air conditioning creates cold surfaces, like exterior walls behind large furniture. When this cold meets the warm, humid air that infiltrates villas, it leads to massive condensation, creating the perfect breeding ground for mold, particularly the notorious Stachybotrys chartarum, commonly called "black mold."

This type of mold produces mycotoxins and microbial volatile organic compounds (mVOCs) that are irritants and can trigger respiratory issues, persistent coughing, headaches, and allergic reactions, especially in children whose immune systems are still developing. Disturbing it, even by moving the wardrobe, can aerosolize these spores and exacerbate the health problems.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself with bleach or store-bought solutions. Improper remediation will spread the spores throughout the villa, increasing exposure. The fastest and only safe way to address this is a professional inspection and remediation process.

We strongly recommend you contact a certified professional immediately. At Saniservice, our process involves a thorough inspection with moisture meters and thermal imaging to identify the full extent of the moisture source and contamination, followed by expert containment and remediation using HEPA filtration and EPA-approved antimicrobials to ensure it is removed safely and completely. For immediate assistance, please call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. Your children's health is the priority.
