Is black mold causing my kids' cough? Urgent removal?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it when we moved the furniture to clean after the recent humidity. It’s a pretty big patch, about the size of a dinner plate. How urgent is it that we get this professionally removed, and is it safe for us to stay here until then?

Black mold exposure can certainly cause respiratory irritation like coughing, especially in children who are more sensitive. The recent high humidity in Dubai creates ideal conditions for mold growth behind furniture where air doesn't circulate.
Given the size (dinner plate) and location (bedroom), this requires professional assessment. Do not attempt to remove it yourself - disturbing it releases more spores into your air. Keep children out of the room and improve ventilation by running AC with windows briefly open daily. In Dubai's climate, hidden moisture problems are common. The urgency is high because the patch is large and already affecting air quality. Professional remediation should include identifying and fixing the moisture source (often condensation from AC units or minor leaks) before removal. Look for providers who use containment procedures and can provide post-remediation verification testing. For immediate relief, HEPA air purifiers in living areas can help reduce airborne spores until professionals address the source. |
