Is black mold causing our persistent coughs in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing non-stop for the last month and I’m starting to worry. I just pulled back the carpet in our bedroom corner to check and found a huge patch of black, fuzzy mold, probably from a slow AC leak. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed this. Could this mold be the reason for our persistent sore throats and headaches, and what’s the safest way to get it cleaned up in Dubai?

Based on your description, it is highly probable that the black mold growth discovered is a significant contributor to the persistent respiratory symptoms your family is experiencing. The constant coughing, sore throats, and headaches are classic indicators of exposure to mold spores and microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs), which are airborne irritants and toxins produced by active fungal colonies.

In the UAE's climate, where high humidity and year-round air conditioning are the norm, AC drain line leaks or condensation issues are a primary cause of such hidden mold growth. The damp environment behind or under carpets creates an ideal breeding ground for various species, including the commonly feared Stachybotrys chartarum (so-called "black mold") and others like Aspergillus or Cladosporium, all of which can adversely affect health.

Attempting a DIY cleanup on a "huge patch" is strongly discouraged. Disturbing the colony without proper containment will aerosolize a massive number of spores, drastically increasing your family's exposure and contaminating other areas of your home. Remediation must follow strict protocols per UAE health and safety guidelines, involving full containment with negative air pressure, HEPA filtration, specialized antimicrobial agents, and the safe disposal of porous materials like the affected carpet and underlay.

For a situation of this severity, a professional inspection and remediation are not just recommended, they are essential for your family's health. Our certified teams at Saniservice are equipped to conduct a comprehensive assessment, including air quality and surface sampling to identify the specific mold species and the full extent of the contamination. We then execute a controlled remediation process to ensure the mold is removed safely and effectively, preventing recurrence.

Please contact us immediately for a consultation at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or hello@saniservice.com. We strongly recommend limiting time in the affected room until a professional assessment can be completed.
