Is black mold in AC urgent to clean myself?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's because of the AC. I finally opened the ceiling unit in our master bedroom here in Jumeirah and the inside is completely covered in black mold. I think it’s the chiller unit, and it's been like this for a while. How urgently do I need to get a professional cleaning service for this, and is it something I can temporarily clean myself to stop the spread?

Based on the situation you've described, this is an extremely urgent matter that requires immediate professional attention. You absolutely should NOT attempt to clean this yourself.

The black substance you're seeing is almost certainly microbial growth, potentially including toxigenic molds like Stachybotrys chartarum. Disturbing it by opening the unit and attempting a DIY clean will aerosolize millions of spores directly into your living space, drastically increasing your family's exposure and likely worsening your children's respiratory symptoms. The AC system will then circulate these spores throughout your entire home in Jumeirah.

In the UAE's climate, the constant humidity and condensation within AC units creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. A surface wipe-down with a consumer-grade cleaner is completely ineffective, as the growth is deep within the coil fins, drain pan, and ductwork. It will return rapidly without professional-grade biocides, steam cleaning, and antimicrobial coating applications, all of which we are certified to perform.

This is a serious health risk, especially for children. We need to conduct a full inspection to assess the contamination level in the entire system. Do not run the AC unit until it has been professionally serviced.

For your family's health, please contact our certified team immediately for a proper assessment and remediation. Call us at 800-MOLDS or 800-66537, or email hello@saniservice.com. We provide services across Dubai and can prioritize your case.
