Is black mold in bedroom closet urgent to treat?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet on the outside wall. It's been incredibly humid the last few weeks and the room always feels damp, even with the AC running constantly. I'm worried it's spreading behind the clothes. Is this something I need to get treated by a professional urgently, or can it wait until next month?

Based on your description, this situation warrants immediate professional attention and should not be delayed until next month. The presence of a black-colored mold patch on an exterior wall, combined with a persistent damp feeling despite constant AC operation, are significant red flags.

In Dubai's high-humidity climate, exterior walls are common sites for condensation issues, especially if there is a slight breach in the building's vapor barrier or if the AC system is not properly balanced to manage the latent load. The mold you see is likely just the visible surface manifestation; it is highly probable that there is a more extensive colony growing within the wall cavity behind the gypsum board. This hidden growth can compromise structural elements like drywall and insulation and will continue to release spores into your bedroom's air.

Attempting to clean the surface patch yourself is a temporary fix and will not address the root moisture problem or the hidden contamination. Disturbing it without proper containment can also cause a significant release of spores. UAE regulations, particularly from Dubai Municipality, emphasize the importance of proper indoor air quality and remediation of biological contaminants to protect occupant health.

We strongly recommend a professional inspection and moisture assessment. Our certified inspectors use tools like thermal imaging cameras and borescopes to determine the extent of the infestation and the source of moisture. Based on the findings, a controlled remediation plan involving containment, air filtration, and proper disposal of contaminated materials can be executed.

For a thorough assessment and to prevent further spread, please contact our specialists. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection with Saniservice. Addressing this now will prevent more extensive and costly damage and ensure a healthy living environment.
