Is black mold in my closet causing kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from this black, fuzzy stuff that’s been spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s on the wall behind our shoe rack and it seems worse now that the humidity has kicked in over the last few weeks. We’ve lived here for 2 years and just noticed it a month ago. How urgent is it that I get a professional to deal with this, or can I handle it myself with bleach?

Based on your description, the situation you're describing is highly concerning and warrants immediate professional attention. The black, fuzzy growth in your closet is almost certainly a mold colony, and the timing correlating with increased humidity and your children's respiratory symptoms is a significant red flag.

In the UAE's climate, where high humidity and constant AC use create ideal conditions for mold, what you see on the surface is often just a small fraction of the problem. The mold has likely penetrated the wallboard or structure behind it. Attempting to clean it with bleach is strongly discouraged. Bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces, can exacerbate spore release into the air, and its fumes can further irritate the respiratory system, potentially worsening your children's cough.

The health implications, particularly for children, are the primary concern. Prolonged exposure to mold spores can cause persistent coughing, wheezing, and other allergic reactions. A professional inspection is not just recommended; it is urgent. Our certified inspectors use thermal imaging and moisture meters to identify the exact moisture source and the full extent of the infestation, which is almost always greater than what is visible. We then provide a detailed remediation plan following UAE health and safety guidelines.

For the health of your family, I advise against DIY methods. Please contact our team for a comprehensive assessment.
