Is black mold in my Dubai villa a big job?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Al Barsha for 2 years and just noticed a spreading patch of black, fuzzy mold in the master bedroom closet on the interior wall. It started small after that really humid spell last month but has gotten much bigger, and our tenant's insurance policy is asking if it's more than 10 square feet. Is this a job for a specialized cleaning company, and roughly how much should I budget for a professional inspection and removal in Dubai?

That spreading patch in your Al Barsha villa is a significant concern, especially given the interior wall location and growth pattern. For a patch over 10 square feet, this is absolutely a job for a specialized company, not a DIY project. The interior wall location suggests a possible hidden moisture source like a pipe leak or significant condensation within the wall cavity, which must be identified and repaired first.

In Dubai’s climate, high humidity and year-round AC use create perfect conditions for this. The initial growth after a humid spell indicates your wall’s relative humidity was high enough for long enough to support mold colonization. A proper remediation involves three critical steps: a professional inspection with moisture mapping to find the water source, containment of the area to prevent spore spread during removal, and safe removal of affected materials by a trained crew.

Budgeting is highly variable and depends entirely on the inspection's findings. The final cost is driven by the extent of the damage behind the wall and the complexity of the required repairs. You should request a detailed assessment from a certified provider; any company you contact should be able to outline their diagnostic process and provide a scope of work before any pricing. For insurance purposes, ensure the company provides full documentation, including lab-verified species identification and before/after clearance testing.
