Is black mold in my kids' room an urgent issue?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's because of a growing patch of black mold in the corner of their bedroom. It's been there since the humidity really kicked in a couple of months ago, but it's gotten noticeably bigger after we had that AC unit serviced last week. How urgent is it to get a professional to handle this, or can I try to clean it myself first?

Based on the symptoms you've described—children coughing and a growing patch of black mold—this is an urgent issue that requires immediate professional attention. In Dubai's climate, high humidity and continuous AC use create a perfect environment for mold proliferation. The fact that the mold appeared after the humidity increased and grew significantly post-AC servicing is a major red flag. This strongly suggests the AC system itself may be contaminated, acting as a vehicle to spread mold spores throughout the room every time it cycles on.

Attempting to clean it yourself is highly inadvisable. Disturbing the colony without proper containment protocols will aerosolize a high concentration of spores, potentially worsening your children's respiratory symptoms and contaminating other areas of your home. True "black mold" (often Stachybotrys chartarum) can produce mycotoxins that are particularly harmful to children and immunocompromised individuals.

A professional inspection is critical. Our certified inspectors will conduct a thorough assessment, including air and surface sampling, to identify the species and the spore count in the air your children are breathing. We will also perform a detailed inspection of your AC unit and ductwork, which is a common source of hidden contamination in UAE homes. The remediation process we employ follows strict guidelines to isolate the area, remove the mold at its source using HEPA filtration, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence, such as addressing the underlying moisture issue and applying protective coatings.

For your family's health, I strongly recommend you contact our team immediately for a comprehensive inspection. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an urgent assessment.
