Is black mold making my toddler sick and how remove?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, probably from a small AC leak we didn't catch. My toddler has been waking up with a stuffy nose and I'm really worried it's making her sick. What's the best way to get rid of this safely and permanently, and should I call a professional company or is this something I can handle myself with products from Ace?

Black mold exposure can cause the symptoms you're describing in your toddler, such as nasal congestion and irritation, especially in young children who are more sensitive. The consistent humidity and reliance on AC in Dubai creates ideal conditions for mold to thrive from even a minor, unnoticed leak.

For a small patch under 1 square meter, you can handle it yourself. Wear an N95 mask, gloves, and safety glasses. Scrub the area with a mixture of detergent and water, then disinfect with a solution of one part white vinegar to four parts water. Avoid bleach, as it only removes the color and doesn't address the moisture source. Thoroughly dry the area with a fan afterwards. The most critical step is fixing the AC leak; otherwise, the mold will return quickly.

Given that a child is experiencing symptoms, a professional inspection is strongly recommended. DIY cleaning only addresses surface mold, and hidden growth within the wall or AC system could still be affecting indoor air quality. A certified company can use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the full extent of the problem and ensure the leak is properly sealed. They can also perform post-remediation verification testing to confirm the spore count in the room has returned to a safe level, which is the only way to know it's truly resolved for your family's health.
