Is closet wall mold DIY or professional job?« Back to Previous Page

The back wall of our master bedroom closet in our Jumeirah villa has started to feel damp, and there are a few small black spots appearing. It's been like this since that big humid spell a couple of weeks ago. I’m worried it's mold, but I’m not sure if it’s something I can just wipe down with vinegar myself or if I need to call a professional company to get it properly treated.

Based on the description of your Jumeirah villa, this is almost certainly a case for professional inspection and remediation. The dampness on the back wall of a closet is a classic indicator of a condensation issue, exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity levels and the constant use of air conditioning. The cold wall surface from the AC creates a thermal bridge, causing moisture in the warm, humid air to condense, providing the perfect breeding ground for mold.
What appears as small black spots is likely the visible surface colony, but mold has a network of roots (hyphae) that penetrate porous building materials like drywall and plaster. Simply wiping the surface with vinegar is a temporary, ineffective solution that will not address the root cause or the hidden infestation within the wall. Disturbing it yourself can also aerosolize spores, spreading the contamination to other areas of your bedroom. In the UAE, professional remediation is not just recommended; it's often mandated by community management regulations (Jumeirah, in particular, has strict standards) to prevent cross-contamination between villas and ensure the structural integrity of the property. A certified inspector will use moisture meters and thermal imaging to identify the exact moisture source and extent of the problem, then execute a controlled remediation process including containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment. For a definitive diagnosis and a permanent solution that protects your health and property, I strongly advise against a DIY approach. Contact our team at Saniservice for a comprehensive inspection.
