Is dampness and mold causing my kids' cough?« Back to Previous Page
|
My kids have been coughing non-stop since we got back from summer vacation, and I’m starting to worry. I’ve noticed a few black spots in the corner of their bedroom behind the wardrobe, and the room just feels damp despite the AC running all the time. We’re in an older building in Jumeirah 1. Is this something I should get professionally tested, and can anyone recommend a reliable mold inspection company that uses child-safe methods?

The dampness and mold you've described are very likely contributing to your children's persistent cough. In Dubai's climate, where high humidity meets constant air conditioning, condensation forms easily on cold surfaces, especially in older buildings with less efficient insulation. This creates an ideal environment for mold growth, and the species commonly found in such conditions, like Cladosporium or Aspergillus, are known respiratory irritants.
The black spots behind the wardrobe are a clear visual indicator, and the persistent damp feeling confirms a moisture issue that needs to be addressed. For children, whose respiratory systems are more sensitive, exposure can lead to exactly the symptoms you're seeing—ongoing coughing, congestion, and worsened allergies. You should get this professionally inspected. A proper assessment involves more than just looking at visible mold; it identifies the species present and measures spore levels in the air your children are breathing. This is crucial for determining the right remediation approach. Look for a company that uses child-safe, non-toxic methods for inspection and can provide documented, lab-based results to show what was found and how it was effectively removed. Any reputable provider should be able to explain their process clearly and have the certifications to back up their work. |
