Is it safe to clean bedroom mold ourselves in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah has these black fuzzy patches that we just found when moving furniture. It's been spreading since the heavy humidity a couple of weeks ago. My main worry is that we've been sleeping in this room and I've had a constant stuffy nose. Is it safe for us to try and clean this ourselves with bleach, or do we absolutely need to call a professional mold removal company here in Dubai?

Based on your description, it is strongly advised against attempting to clean this mold yourself. The black fuzzy patches indicate significant growth, likely exacerbated by Dubai's high humidity and the condensation that can occur from continuous AC use, which creates an ideal environment for mold. Your persistent stuffy nose is a classic symptom of mold exposure, confirming that the spores are already affecting your indoor air quality and health.

Using bleach is a common misconception and is ineffective and potentially dangerous for porous surfaces like drywall. Bleach only removes the surface discoloration but does not kill the root system (hyphae) growing within the wall. Furthermore, it introduces excessive moisture, which can actually feed the mold and cause it to regrow more aggressively. Disturbing the colony without proper containment protocols will also cause a massive release of harmful spores throughout your bedroom and home.

For a situation of this magnitude, a professional inspection and remediation are absolutely necessary. In the UAE, proper mold remediation requires specialized equipment: HEPA filtration to capture airborne spores, negative air pressure machines to contain the affected area, and industrial-grade dehumidifiers to address the underlying moisture source. Our certified technicians at Saniservice are trained in these protocols to ensure the mold is completely eradicated and the air is safe.
