Is it safe to sleep in a room with black mold?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it's from the black mold I just found behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it when I was rearranging furniture. It’s a pretty big patch, maybe a foot wide, and the room has felt really humid lately even with the AC on. How urgent is it that I get this professionally removed, and is it safe for my family to sleep in that room tonight?

As a certified mold remediation specialist operating in the UAE, my professional assessment is that it is not safe for your family to sleep in a room with visible black mold, especially given the health symptoms you've described. The presence of a one-foot patch indicates a significant and active colony, likely fueled by the high ambient humidity and condensation common in Dubai, even with AC running. The coughing in your children is a direct red flag for exposure to mycotoxins and mold spores.

The urgency for professional removal is high. In the UAE's climate, mold can proliferate rapidly behind walls and furniture, often indicating a larger, hidden problem. Do not attempt to remove it yourself, as improper remediation can aerosolize spores, drastically increasing airborne contamination and health risks.

For tonight, I strongly recommend relocating your family to another well-ventilated room and keeping the master bedroom door closed. Do not use the AC in that room as it can spread spores throughout the ductwork.

This situation requires immediate professional inspection and testing to determine the spore count and species. We adhere to strict Dubai Municipality guidelines for assessment and containment. For a case involving child health, I would classify this as a priority. Please contact our team immediately for a comprehensive assessment.
