Is mold behind my bed an urgent problem?« Back to Previous Page

Our master bedroom in our villa in Jumeirah has felt really damp since the heavy rain a couple of weeks ago. I just pulled our king-sized bed away from the wall to hoard and found a bunch of black and green fuzzy spots spreading from the corner, about the size of a dinner plate. It’s behind the bed and a tall dresser, so we never saw it. How urgently do I need to get a professional to deal with this, and can it wait until the weekend?

Based on your description of the discovery in your Jumeirah villa, this is an urgent problem that requires immediate professional attention, not a weekend delay. The heavy rain we experienced is a classic trigger, as it can lead to water intrusion through walls or roofs. The presence of both black and green fuzzy colonies indicates active growth, likely feeding on the organic material in the gypsum board and dust.

The primary concern is the significant hidden growth. A patch the size of a dinner plate suggests a well-established colony, and its location behind furniture means it has been proliferating in an undisturbed, dark, and damp environment for some time. In Dubai's climate, with high ambient humidity and constant AC use creating temperature differentials that lead to condensation, this situation will not self-resolve and will only worsen.

Disturbing the area by moving the bed and dresser has already risked releasing a high concentration of spores into your master bedroom's air, which can lead to respiratory issues, allergic reactions, and other health concerns upon inhalation.

A professional inspection is absolutely critical. We must identify the moisture source—whether it's a leak from the rain or condensation from the AC system—to prevent immediate recurrence. DIY cleaning is strongly discouraged as it is ineffective against root causes and poses a high risk of cross-contamination.

For a situation of this severity in a living area, I recommend you contact a certified remediation company immediately. Saniservice specializes in such diagnostics and compliant remediation. Call them at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection and contain the issue before it spreads further.
