Is mold behind my wardrobe urgent for kids' cough« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be mold, as I just found some black spots behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed this, but the AC has been feeling damp lately. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold inspection, or can I handle this myself with bleach first?

Black mould behind furniture with ongoing AC issues and children coughing warrants immediate professional inspection. The combination suggests a persistent humidity problem typical in Dubai villas, where AC condensation and lack of airflow behind large furniture create perfect breeding grounds.

Do not use bleach. It only removes surface discoloration and can worsen the problem by adding moisture, forcing the mould roots deeper into porous materials like gypsum board. The coughing could be a reaction to mould spores being circulated by your AC system.

In Dubai's climate, this is rarely an isolated spot. A proper inspection involves using moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the hidden moisture source, often a small AC leak or condensation buildup in the wall. Air and surface sampling sent to a microbiology lab is the only way to identify the specific species and its potential health impacts, which is crucial when children are symptomatic.

You need a diagnostic assessment to understand the full extent. A legitimate inspector will provide a detailed report with lab results and moisture readings, not just a quote for removal. This evidence-based approach is the only way to resolve the root cause and protect your family's health.
