Is mold remediation DIY or need a pro in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle seems to be leaking into the wall behind it, and I've just discovered a large patch of black mold there that's been hidden. With this humidity, I'm worried it's spreading quickly behind the drywall. I got one quote for AED 2,500 to fix the leak and remove the mold, but is that a reasonable price for a professional job, or is this something I can tackle myself with bleach and a dehumidifier?

Based on the conditions you've described in Jumeirah Village Circle, this is unequivocally a job for professional remediation, not a DIY attempt. The black mold hidden behind drywall, fed by an AC leak, is a serious concern. The UAE's high humidity acts as a constant accelerant, allowing mold to proliferate deeply into building materials and even the AC system itself, spreading spores throughout your apartment.

A professional remediation process is systematic and goes far beyond surface cleaning. It involves: 1) Isolating the contaminated area with negative air pressure to prevent cross-contamination. 2) Safely removing and disposing of compromised drywall and insulation. 3) HEPA vacuuming and abrasive cleaning of all structural surfaces. 4) Applying EPA-approved antimicrobial agents to eliminate residual mold roots. 5) Addressing the primary moisture source—in your case, the AC leak—which is a critical step often missed in DIY. Crucially, we also conduct post-remediation verification testing to ensure the spore count has returned to safe, ambient levels.

The quote of AED 2,500 is reasonable for a proper, certified remediation that includes leak repair, containment, material removal, and cleaning. Using bleach is ineffective on porous surfaces like drywall and can actually release more toxins. A dehumidifier only addresses ambient humidity, not the saturated wall cavity.

For a situation this advanced, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and remediation. Please contact our certified team at Saniservice for a comprehensive assessment. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com.
