Is mold removal in Dubai normally 3000 AED or DIY?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Jumeirah for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe, which is on an exterior wall. I'm worried it's from the high humidity we had last month and I'm concerned for my toddler's health. I got one quote for remediation that was over 3,000 AED, which seemed really high. Is this a normal price to get rid of mold in Dubai, or can I handle this myself with bleach and a dehumidifier?

The price you were quoted is within the normal range for professional remediation, particularly for a villa in Jumeirah where the source of moisture must be professionally identified and addressed. The high cost reflects the process: containment to prevent spores spreading, safe removal of contaminated materials, treatment of the root cause (often condensation from AC or a hidden leak), and final verification that the space is truly clean.

For a toddler's bedroom, DIY with bleach is not recommended. Bleach only removes surface discoloration on non-porous materials; it doesn't kill mould roots inside porous drywall and can aggravate respiratory issues by releasing fumes. The problem is almost certainly inside the wall, likely due to the high humidity interacting with the cold exterior wall behind the wardrobe—a very common issue here.

Your first step is a professional inspection to identify the moisture source and the mould species. This dictates the correct remediation method. For a contained area, the cost may be lower, but for widespread growth affecting wall cavities, the quote is reasonable. A certified inspector can provide a detailed scope of work that justifies the cost, which should include post-remediation testing to confirm the air is safe.
