Is mold removal serious?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a little bit and now I’ve found a patch of black mold, about the size of a dinner plate, behind the wardrobe. It’s been humid for the past few weeks and the musty smell is really strong now. Is this something I can tackle myself with bleach from ACE, or should I just call a professional company for mold removal in Dubai, and what would that usually cost for a job this size?

Yes, mold removal is a serious matter that should not be taken lightly, especially given the conditions you've described. The combination of an AC leak and Dubai's high ambient humidity creates a perfect breeding ground for mold. A patch the size of a dinner plate, coupled with a strong musty odor, indicates an established colony that is actively releasing spores into your bedroom's air.

While small surface mold on non-porous tiles can sometimes be addressed with a bleach solution, your situation is different. The location behind the wardrobe suggests the mold has likely penetrated the wall's porous substrate (plaster/gypsum board). Bleach is ineffective here; it only bleaches the surface mold you can see while leaving the root structure intact, leading to rapid regrowth. More critically, DIY attempts without proper containment, HEPA filtration, and PPE will aerosolize these spores, significantly increasing your exposure and contaminating other areas of your home.

In the UAE, professional remediation is strongly advised. We follow strict protocols per international standards (IICRC S520) to safely contain the area, remove contaminated materials, and utilize industrial-grade antimicrobials and air scrubbers to purify the air. For a patch of that size, the cost for professional removal in Dubai typically ranges from AED 1,500 to AED 3,000. This includes a detailed inspection to identify the moisture source (the leaking AC unit must be repaired to prevent recurrence), safe remediation, and a post-clearance verification test to ensure the environment is safe.

Given the health risks and potential for the problem to be larger than visible, we recommend a professional inspection. For immediate assistance, you can call our experts at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com for a precise assessment and quote.
