Is mold under my AC an urgent Dubai problem?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my apartment in Jumeirah seems to be leaking a bit of water onto the carpet in the living room. I only noticed a small damp patch a couple of weeks ago, but now there's a definite blackish-green speckled patch about the size of a dinner plate, and the whole area smells really musty. Given the humidity here, how urgently do I need to get a professional to deal with this mold?

Yes, this requires immediate professional attention. In Dubai's high humidity, that damp patch and visible mould growth indicate a significant issue that will worsen rapidly.

The leak provides constant moisture, and our climate offers the ideal warm, humid environment for mould to proliferate. The musty smell confirms active microbial growth, which is already releasing spores into your indoor air. This can quickly lead to respiratory irritation, worsened allergies, and a persistent odour problem throughout your apartment.

For a case with visible growth and a water source, a DIY approach is insufficient and can aerosolize spores. You need a certified mould inspector to identify the exact AC leak source, assess the extent of growth within the unit and under the carpet, and provide a remediation protocol. They should use moisture meters and may recommend air or surface sampling to identify the mould species, which is critical for understanding any potential health risks and ensuring the correct remediation method is used. Addressing the root cause—the AC leak—is the first and most crucial step to prevent immediate recurrence.
