Is my mold causing health issues and safe Dubai removal?« Back to Previous Page

Our building had some water leakage issues from the apartment upstairs after the heavy rains a couple of weeks ago, and now I’ve spotted a patch of black, fuzzy mold spreading on the ceiling of my walk-in closet in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Lately, I’ve been waking up with a stuffy nose and an itchy throat that I never had before. Is it possible these symptoms are from the mold, and what’s the safest way to get it cleaned in Dubai without making it worse?

Your symptoms—stuffy nose and itchy throat—are common reactions to mold exposure and are very likely linked to the growth in your closet, especially as they are new and coincide with the water leak. The damp conditions from the leak create an ideal environment for mold to proliferate, and airborne spores can easily affect indoor air quality, particularly in a confined space like a walk-in closet.

In Dubai's humid climate, simply wiping the visible patch is insufficient and can aerosolize spores, spreading the problem. The safest approach is a professional assessment. For a situation stemming from a leak, a certified inspector can use moisture meters to find the full extent of water damage behind the ceiling and recommend a containment strategy. Remediation often involves isolating the area, using HEPA filtration to capture spores, and removing and replacing the affected drywall to ensure the mold is fully removed.

After the leak source is repaired and the area is remediated, controlling humidity with a dehumidifier or ensuring your AC is properly maintained is crucial to prevent recurrence. For verifiable results, the process should be validated with pre- and post-remediation testing, which a company with its own microbiology lab can provide.
