Is professional mold treatment needed for a Dubai villa?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black, fuzzy mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet where we store our winter clothes. It’s been incredibly humid lately and I’m worried it’s spread behind the walls. I’ve tried wiping it with vinegar but it came right back.
For a problem like this in a Dubai villa, is it better to just call a professional cleaning company, and what’s a realistic cost I should expect for an inspection and treatment?

Black mold's reappearance after a DIY treatment like vinegar is a clear sign the issue is more than surface level. In Dubai's high humidity, this indicates an active moisture source, likely condensation from AC ducts or a hidden leak within the wall cavity. Wiping it away doesn't address the root cause or the spores that have already spread.
For a villa, professional inspection is strongly recommended. The goal isn't just cleaning the visible patch but diagnosing the moisture source and assessing the extent of contamination behind the walls, which you cannot see. A proper inspection uses moisture meters and borescopes to check wall cavities and may include air or surface sampling to identify the mold type. Treatment cost depends entirely on the scope. A simple containment and clean-up of one area is a different financial consideration than addressing mold throughout an AC duct system or inside walls. Reputable companies base quotes on inspection findings, not flat rates. Expect to request an assessment that outlines the moisture source, the square footage affected, and the remediation protocol, which should include containment, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment. Always verify the company can provide before-and-after lab results to confirm the air quality has been restored. |
