Is the black mold in my Dubai home dangerous?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing for a couple of weeks and I'm starting to panic. I just pulled out a stack of winter clothes from the spare bedroom wardrobe and found a bunch of them covered in fuzzy black spots, and the wall behind it feels damp. We had that leak from the AC condensation pipe a while back and I thought it was fixed. Is this the dangerous black mold I keep hearing about and how do I get it professionally tested in Dubai?

Based on your description, it is highly probable you are dealing with a significant mold infestation. The term "black mold" is often used to refer to Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic species that can produce mycotoxins. While not all black-colored mold is Stachybotrys, its presence, especially coupled with water damage from a past AC leak and current respiratory symptoms in children, is a serious concern that requires immediate professional attention.

The damp wall indicates an ongoing moisture issue, which is the root cause. In Dubai's climate, with high humidity and year-round AC use, condensation drain blockages are a frequent culprit. Even if the pipe was fixed, the residual moisture inside the wall cavity creates a perfect environment for mold to thrive unseen.

Self-testing is not advisable. Proper inspection involves a certified specialist using tools like a moisture meter and borescope to assess the extent of damage within the wall. Air and surface sampling should then be conducted by a Dubai Municipality-approved laboratory to accurately identify the species and concentration, which dictates the remediation protocol. Disturbing it yourself risks spreading spores throughout your home.

Given the health symptoms and visible growth, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and testing. Our certified team at Saniservice can conduct a comprehensive assessment, provide a detailed lab report, and execute a DM-compliant remediation plan to safely remove the mold and address the moisture source. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. Do not delay, as this poses a health risk to your family.
