Is this black mold in my Dubai villa dangerous?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading along the back wall of our master bedroom closet, behind all the clothes. It's on the wall that faces the outside of our villa in Mirdif, and it feels slightly damp. My wife’s allergies have been terrible lately and we’re worried this is the cause. Is this dangerous black mold and who do I even call in Dubai to get this properly tested and removed?

Based on your description, the situation you've described in your Mirdif villa presents several classic indicators of a significant mold issue that requires immediate professional attention. The location on an exterior wall, the presence of dampness, and the correlation with your wife's worsening allergic symptoms are strong evidence of an active mold colony.

The term "black mold" is often used to refer to Stachybotrys chartarum, a toxigenic species that can produce mycotoxins. However, many other species of mold (e.g., Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium) can also appear black and are significant allergens, especially in a confined space like a closet. Without professional testing, visual identification is impossible and unreliable. The dampness suggests a persistent moisture source, which in Dubai's climate is frequently due to condensation from air conditioning systems, a small leak in the plumbing or building envelope, or thermal bridging in exterior walls where cool interior air meets the hot exterior surface.

This is indeed dangerous for your family's health, primarily as a potent allergen and irritant. Prolonged exposure can exacerbate asthma, cause sinus infections, and lead to persistent allergic rhinitis, which aligns with your wife's symptoms.

You must call a certified mold inspection and remediation company. In Dubai, look for companies that adhere to international guidelines like the IICRC S520 standard. Do not attempt to clean this yourself with bleach, as this can aerosolize the spores and worsen the contamination. A professional will conduct a thorough inspection, including moisture mapping and air/surface sampling to identify the species and the root moisture cause. They will then contain the area and safely remediate it.

For a case with these clear health implications and visible growth, I strongly recommend you contact a specialist immediately. Call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. They are experts in dealing with mold issues specific to UAE villas and can provide the necessary testing, remediation, and guidance to prevent recurrence.
