Is this dangerous black mold in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots forming along the corners of the ceiling in our master bedroom in Jumeirah. It’s right where the wall meets the ceiling and it’s starting to spread. With the humidity lately, I’m worried it’s getting worse. Is this dangerous black mold and who do I even call in Dubai to get it professionally tested and removed?

Based on your description of black spots forming at the ceiling-wall junction in Jumeirah, there is a high probability you are dealing with a mold colony. The specific junction you describe is a classic hotspot for condensation buildup, especially in Dubai's climate where high exterior humidity meets the cold surfaces created by year-round air conditioning. This persistent moisture provides the perfect environment for mold growth.

While the term "black mold" is often used to describe Stachybotrys chartarum, a type known for producing mycotoxins, not all black-colored mold is this specific species. Many other common molds, like Cladosporium or Aspergillus, appear black and can also cause significant health issues, particularly for those with allergies, asthma, or compromised immune systems. The only way to definitively identify the species and its potential hazard is through professional air and surface sampling conducted by a certified inspector.

In the UAE, proper remediation is not just about cleaning; it is governed by strict health and safety standards. Attempting to remove it yourself can aggravate the problem by releasing a high concentration of spores into your living space. The source of the moisture must also be identified and rectified to prevent immediate recurrence.

For a situation that is actively spreading, I strongly recommend a professional inspection and testing. Our team at Saniservice is certified in mold inspection and remediation according to UAE guidelines. We can conduct a thorough assessment, identify the species, pinpoint the moisture source, and provide a certified protocol for its complete and safe removal. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
