Is this mold and how to inspect it in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black spots spreading on the back wall of our bedroom closet, behind all the clothes. It's gotten worse since the humidity kicked in last month, and now our entire bedroom has a damp, earthy smell that won't go away even with the AC on. Is this definitely mold, and what's the best way to get a proper inspection done in Dubai to see how bad it really is?

That description is highly consistent with mold growth. The combination of visible black spots, a persistent damp or earthy odor that the AC cannot remove, and a recent increase in humidity are all classic indicators. The closet wall is a prime location because stagnant, humid air gets trapped behind clothing, allowing condensation to form and mold to flourish.

For a proper inspection in Dubai, a visual assessment alone is insufficient, as it cannot determine the mold type or if it has spread inside the wall cavity. A professional inspection should include two key components: a moisture survey using tools like a thermal imaging camera to find the dampness source and hidden pockets of moisture, and air and surface sampling. The samples are then sent to an accredited microbiology lab for analysis to identify the specific species and spore concentration, which is critical for assessing health risks and planning remediation.

Any reputable inspector should provide you with a detailed report including the lab results, an explanation of the findings, and a scope of work for remediation if needed. This documented, science-based approach is the standard for resolving such issues effectively and is far more reliable than DIY methods, especially given Dubai's climate that constantly promotes these conditions.
