is this mold and who can inspect it in Dubai?« Back to Previous Page

We’ve lived here in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed some black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It’s on the wall that faces the outside, and it’s gotten worse since the heavy dew we had last week. Is this definitely mold, and can anyone recommend a reliable company that does a thorough inspection and doesn't just try to sell you a crazy expensive treatment right away?

The black spots in your closet are almost certainly mold, given your description and Dubai's climate. The exterior-facing wall is likely cooler than the indoor air, causing condensation when humid air from the AC enters the closet, creating the perfect damp environment for mold to grow. This is a common issue here, especially after periods of high humidity or dew.

For a reliable inspection, you need a company that performs more than a visual check. A thorough inspection uses moisture meters to find the water source and air or surface sampling to identify the mold species in a certified lab. This diagnostic step is critical; it determines the actual risk level and the specific remediation protocol needed, ensuring you don't pay for an unnecessary or incorrect treatment.

Be wary of inspectors who recommend expensive remediation immediately without showing you diagnostic data. A credible company will provide a detailed report with their findings and a clear, scope-of-work proposal based on the lab results, not speculation. In Dubai, look for providers with certifications from bodies like the IICRC, as they adhere to international standards for mold assessment, which focuses on identifying the root cause, not just the visible growth.
