Is this mold behind my wardrobe in Jumeirah Park?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Jumeirah Park. The AC has been running constantly, and my throat has been feeling scratchy in the mornings. Is this definitely mold, and can anyone recommend a reliable company to do a proper inspection and tell us how bad it is?

Based on your description and location, it is highly likely to be mold. The combination of constant AC use and a confined space behind a wardrobe creates a perfect environment for it. Air conditioning units remove humidity from the air, which often condenses on cooler surfaces like exterior walls; when this moisture is trapped behind furniture with no air circulation, mold growth is almost inevitable. Your scratchy throat is a common reaction to the elevated spore count in your bedroom's air.
In Dubai's climate, this is a frequent issue, particularly during the more humid summer months. The first step is to move the wardrobe away from the wall to allow the area to dry completely and prevent further spread. Do not attempt to scrub it yourself, as this can aerosolize a high concentration of spores. For a situation like this, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to determine the extent. A proper assessment involves more than a visual check; it includes moisture mapping of the wall and air quality testing to identify the spore types and concentrations. This diagnostic approach is crucial, as hidden growth within the wall cavity is common. Any reputable company should be able to provide a detailed report with lab findings, not just a visual opinion, which will outline the necessary remediation steps. Look for providers with certifications like IICRC and ask how they will verify the environment is returned to a healthy state post-remediation. |
