Is this mold causing my family's constant cough?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing constantly for the past few weeks and we can't figure out why. I was cleaning behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom in Jumeirah and found a patch of black spots on the wall that wasn't there before the heavy rains. I'm really worried it's mold and that it's making us sick. Is there a recommended mold inspection company that can test the air quality to see if this is the cause?

That black patch behind your wardrobe is very likely mold, and the timing with the heavy rains and your family's cough is a strong indicator it's related. In Dubai's climate, interior walls can trap moisture after rain events, especially in less-ventilated areas, creating the perfect environment for mold growth. The constant AC use can then circulate those spores.

A persistent cough is a common reaction to mold exposure, particularly in children. The type of mold matters—some species like Aspergillus are more problematic than others. Given the symptoms and visible growth, a professional inspection is strongly recommended to identify the species and the full extent of the problem, which is often more widespread than the visible patch.

Look for a provider that does more than a visual check. They should conduct air quality testing, including spore counts from both indoor and outdoor control samples for comparison, and take physical samples of the growth for lab analysis to identify the species. This scientific approach is crucial for determining the actual health risk and the correct remediation method.

Any reputable company will be transparent about their process and provide you with a detailed report of their findings from an accredited lab. This documented evidence is what separates a proper diagnosis from a simple guess.
