Is this mold from my AC and can I fix it?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of small black spots growing along the bottom of the wall behind our sofa in the living room. It's on an interior wall and I'm worried it's from the AC unit on the other side. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it came back after a few days. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need to call a professional to check the AC unit?

Based on your description, this is a classic case of mold growth, and the AC unit is the most probable source. The pattern you describe—black spots on an interior wall, recurring after surface cleaning—strongly indicates a persistent moisture issue. In Dubai's climate, where high external humidity meets year-round air conditioning, condensation within AC units and their ductwork is a primary cause. The wall behind your sofa is likely a cold surface where humid air from the room is condensing, or, more critically, the condensation drain line from the AC unit on the other side of the wall may be blocked or leaking, providing a constant moisture source for mold to flourish internally.

Vinegar or DIY cleaning is a temporary measure because it only addresses the surface manifestation, not the underlying moisture problem. The mold's root system (hyphae) remains embedded in the wall, and the water intrusion will cause it to return rapidly.

For a definitive diagnosis and permanent solution, a professional inspection is absolutely necessary. Our certified technicians use specialized tools like borescopes to inspect inside wall cavities and moisture meters to pinpoint the exact source of water. We also perform air and surface sampling to identify the mold species, which is crucial for determining the correct remediation protocol, as per UAE health and safety guidelines.

I recommend you cease DIY attempts and contact our team at Saniservice. We will conduct a comprehensive assessment of both the affected wall and your AC system to identify and rectify the moisture source, followed by a certified remediation process to ensure the mold is safely and completely removed. Please call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection.
