Is this mold in my Al Barsha villa closet?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our villa in Al Barsha for two years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading in the corner of our master bedroom closet. It's been worse since the humidity kicked in last month, and there's a really damp, earthy smell in that room now. Is this definitely mold, and can anyone recommend a reliable company to do a proper inspection and tell us how bad it is?

Based on your description, it is very likely mold. The combination of black spots, a damp earthy smell that worsens with high humidity, and its location in a closet are classic indicators. Dubai's high humidity, especially during the summer months, creates ideal conditions for mold growth in poorly ventilated areas like closets against exterior walls.
You should arrange for a professional inspection. A proper assessment involves more than a visual check; it includes measuring moisture levels within the wall and potentially air or surface sampling to identify the mold species. This is critical in Dubai, as the constant use of AC can sometimes spread spores from a localized problem to other parts of the home. The inspection will determine the source of the moisture—whether it's condensation from the AC, a small plumbing leak, or external water seepage—and the extent of the infestation behind the surface. For a reliable inspection, look for a provider that uses a certified mold inspector and has its own microbiology lab. This allows for accurate species identification from any samples taken, which is important for understanding potential health risks and planning the correct remediation strategy. They should provide you with a detailed report documenting their findings, moisture readings, and the lab analysis. Avoid companies that offer immediate remediation without this diagnostic phase, as treating the symptom without finding and fixing the underlying moisture source will lead to the mold returning. |
