Is this mold in my bedroom a DIY or pro job?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe in the master bedroom. It's been really humid lately and I'm worried it's mold, especially since my husband's allergies have been acting up. I tried wiping it with vinegar but it just came back. Is this something I can handle myself with a product from ACE, or do I need to call a professional mold removal company in Dubai, and what would that likely cost?

That pattern—recurring black spots behind furniture in a humid period—is almost certainly active mold growth. Given the location and your husband's allergy symptoms, a DIY approach is not recommended for a few specific reasons.

The wall behind a wardrobe is a high-risk area. The furniture traps humidity and prevents air circulation, creating a perfect microclimate for mold, especially during Dubai's humid summer months. Vinegar only removes surface discoloration; it does not address the fungal roots (hyphae) penetrating the porous wall material, which is why it returned. Using stronger, non-specific biocides from a hardware store can disturb the colony and aerosolize spores, potentially worsening allergy symptoms and spreading the problem.

For a recurring case like this, a professional assessment is advised to determine the moisture source and extent. In many Dubai buildings, this can be due to a combination of condensation from AC systems and external humidity permeating the walls. Remediation involves containing the area, safely removing contaminated materials like drywall or insulation, HEPA vacuuming, and applying professional-grade antimicrobials. The final, critical step is identifying and rectifying the underlying moisture issue to prevent immediate recurrence.

Costs for professional remediation are variable and depend entirely on the square footage affected and whether the wall cavity is involved. It is standard practice to request a detailed site inspection and a scope-of-work quote before any treatment begins.
