Is this mold urgent or can I treat it myself?« Back to Previous Page

The AC in my bedroom has been leaking a bit onto the wall for a couple of weeks, and I just pulled the wardrobe away to find a huge patch of black and green mold spreading behind it. We've had the AC on constantly with the humidity, and I'm worried it's making my allergies worse. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold removal company in to handle this, or is it something I can treat myself first?

A leak causing significant mold growth behind furniture is a high-priority issue in Dubai's climate. The constant AC use and high humidity create a perfect environment for rapid mold colonization, which is almost certainly contributing to your allergy symptoms.

For a patch larger than one square meter, and given its location from a persistent leak, professional remediation is strongly advised. DIY attempts with bleach or consumer sprays often fail to address the root moisture problem and can disturb spores, spreading them to other areas. In many cases, the wall cavity or backing may be contaminated and require specialized equipment to dry and treat properly.

A certified professional will first stop the AC leak, then use containment barriers and HEPA filtration to remove the mold safely, followed by antimicrobial treatment. They can also verify with moisture meters that the structure is dry, preventing rapid regrowth. For verification, the Dubai Municipality has guidelines for indoor air quality, and a proper remediation company will be able to document the process and results.
