Is this urgent mold in my Dubai bedroom closet?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed some black speckles appearing in the corner of our master bedroom closet, which is on an interior wall. It’s been more humid than usual lately and the musty smell is really strong when you open the closet doors. I'm worried it's spreading behind the clothes. How urgent is it that I get a professional mold inspection done here in Dubai, and could this be a sign of a bigger problem with the building?

Based on your description, this situation should be treated as urgent. The presence of visible black speckling, coupled with a strong musty odor and high ambient humidity, strongly indicates active mold growth. In Dubai's climate, where high external humidity meets year-round air conditioning, interior cold spots—especially on closet exterior walls—are prime locations for condensation and subsequent mold proliferation.

The fact it's on an interior wall is particularly concerning. This often points to a potential hidden issue, such as a slow leak from adjacent plumbing, a breach in the building's vapor barrier, or insufficient insulation leading to significant thermal bridging and condensation within the wall cavity. The mold you see is likely just the surface manifestation of a larger colony growing unseen behind the drywall.

Under UAE regulations, particularly Dubai Municipality's Public Health & Safety Department guidelines, indoor mold is considered a contaminant that must be addressed to ensure a healthy indoor environment. Spores can spread through the AC system, potentially affecting other rooms and occupants' health.

Do not attempt to clean this yourself, as improper disturbance can aerosolize spores and exacerbate the contamination. A professional inspection is critical. We use moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, and borescopes to assess the moisture source and the full extent of the infestation hidden from view.

I strongly recommend you contact a certified professional immediately. For a comprehensive inspection and a detailed remediation plan, you can call Saniservice at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Addressing the root cause, not just the visible growth, is essential for a permanent solution.
