Is this wall mold a DIY fix or need professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived in our Jumeirah villa for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our wardrobe, which is on an interior wall. The room has felt really damp lately even with the AC on. I'm worried it's a bigger issue inside the wall and I have no idea what something like this costs to fix here. Is this a DIY job with bleach or do I absolutely need to call a professional company for an inspection?

That wall mold is very likely a symptom of a larger moisture problem within the wall cavity, especially in a Jumeirah villa. The damp feeling despite AC use points to possible condensation or a hidden leak from pipes or the AC drain line. Bleach is a temporary surface fix that does not address the root moisture or remove the mold's structure, and its use in an enclosed space can be hazardous.
For mold spreading behind a fixed wardrobe on an interior wall, a professional inspection is strongly advised. They use moisture meters and borescopes to assess the wall's interior without unnecessary damage, identifying the exact water source. The humid Dubai climate means that if the underlying issue isn't resolved, the mold will return quickly. DIY is only ever considered for very small, surface-level patches (less than 1 square meter) caused by obvious, already-fixed condensation. Your situation exceeds that. Remediation cost here depends entirely on the extent of the damage found inside the wall, which can range from localized repair to replacing full sections of drywall and insulation. The only way to get an accurate understanding is to have a certified inspector provide a detailed assessment and scope of work. |
