Is urgent black mold removal needed for my kids?« Back to Previous Page

My kids have been coughing and I suspect it might be the black fuzzy stuff I just found behind the wardrobe in our master bedroom. We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed it, but it's pretty bad in the corner where the wall meets the floor. How urgent is this to deal with, and can I clean it myself or do I need to call a professional immediately?

Based on your description, this situation warrants immediate professional attention. The presence of visible black mold growth, especially of a fuzzy nature behind furniture, combined with your children's respiratory symptoms, strongly indicates an active and significant infestation. The location—a bedroom—is particularly concerning due to prolonged exposure during sleep.

In Dubai's climate, this is a common issue. Our year-round reliance on AC can create significant condensation, especially on cooler exterior walls and behind large pieces of furniture like wardrobes that restrict airflow. This trapped moisture is the perfect breeding ground for mold. The species often referred to as "black mold" (typically Stachybotrys chartarum) can produce mycotoxins that are particularly irritating to the respiratory tract, explaining the coughing in your kids.

Attempting a DIY clean is not advisable for several reasons. First, improper cleaning can aerosolize the spores, spreading the contamination throughout your home and potentially worsening the health effects. Second, you are likely only addressing the surface growth and not the underlying moisture source, guaranteeing rapid regrowth. Finally, without proper protective equipment, you risk significant personal exposure.

The urgency is high due to the health symptoms. I strongly recommend you cease using the room and contact a certified professional immediately. We at Saniservice specialize in this exact scenario. Our process involves a thorough inspection to identify the moisture source and the full extent of the contamination, followed by professional containment, removal, and remediation using industrial-grade HEPA filtration and antimicrobial agents, all conducted under strict Dubai Municipality guidelines for environmental health and safety.

Please do not delay. For a certified inspection and to discuss remediation options, call us at 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com. Your family's health is the priority.
