Is urgent professional mold remediation needed for closet?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mold in the corner of our master bedroom closet, behind some shoes. It wasn't there during my last clean-out a few months ago, but with all the humidity lately, it seems to have appeared. I’m worried it might be spreading inside the wall. How urgently do I need to get a professional mold remediation company in to deal with this, or is it something I can handle myself with a bleach spray?

Based on your description, this situation warrants a professional inspection and likely requires urgent professional remediation. The key concern is your suspicion that it's spreading inside the wall. Mold growth on a surface is one issue, but concealed growth within wall cavities is a more serious contamination event that cannot be addressed with surface cleaning.

The recent high humidity in Dubai is a significant factor. This climate, combined with potential condensation from your year-round AC system, creates a perfect environment for rapid mold proliferation, especially in confined, poorly ventilated spaces like closets. What you see is often just the "bloom" or fruiting body; the actual root structure (hyphae) is likely embedded deep within the porous wall material.

Using bleach is strongly discouraged. It is ineffective on porous surfaces, as it only bleaches the visible pigment on the surface while the organism continues to grow underneath. More critically, bleach is predominantly water, which can actually feed the mold growth deeper within the wall and potentially release a large number of spores during cleaning, worsening indoor air quality.

A professional inspection is crucial. We would use moisture meters and thermal imaging cameras to assess the extent of the moisture intrusion and hidden growth within the wall cavity. Remediation would involve isolating the area, removing affected porous materials under controlled conditions, HEPA vacuuming, and applying professional-grade antimicrobial solutions to ensure the mold is eradicated, not just cleaned cosmetically.

For a proper assessment and to prevent further spread, I recommend contacting our specialists at Saniservice. Call 800-MOLDS (800-66537) or email hello@saniservice.com to schedule an inspection. Addressing this promptly will protect your property and your health.
