Is urgent professional mold treatment needed for JVC apartment?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a patch of black mould behind our bedroom wardrobe, which is on an exterior wall in our apartment in Jumeirah Village Circle. It’s been incredibly humid lately and the room always feels damp, even with the AC running constantly. How urgent is it that we get this professionally treated, or can we handle it ourselves with bleach?

The urgency depends on the mold's extent and your household's health. A small patch behind furniture is common in JVC due to high humidity and exterior wall condensation from constant AC use. If it's confined to a small area (under 1 square meter) and you have no respiratory issues, you can attempt careful cleaning.
For a DIY approach, skip bleach—it’s mostly water and can worsen humidity. Use a vinegar solution or a dedicated mold remover, scrub gently, and dry the area completely with a fan. However, since the mold is on an exterior wall and you mention constant dampness, the underlying cause is likely persistent condensation or a hidden leak. Without fixing the moisture source, it will return. Professional assessment is strongly recommended here. They use moisture meters and thermal cameras to find the exact moisture source within the wall cavity, which is often invisible. In Dubai’s climate, this persistent dampness can lead to structural issues over time. A proper remediation will address the root cause, not just the visible mold, and includes containment to prevent spores from spreading to other rooms during cleaning. For verification, a post-remediation test from an independent lab is the only way to confirm the space is truly mold-free. |
