Mold behind wardrobe: call management or professional?« Back to Previous Page

We've lived here for 2 years and just noticed a bunch of black spots spreading on the wall behind our bedroom wardrobe in Silicon Oasis. It's on the wall that faces the outside, and with all the humidity lately, it's gotten much worse. What's the best way to handle this in Dubai – should I call the building management first or get a professional mold remediation company myself?

This situation requires both building management and a professional assessment. Start by notifying your building management immediately. In Dubai, the external wall and its insulation are typically the building's responsibility, especially if the issue stems from a leak or inadequate waterproofing in the building envelope. They need to inspect and address the root cause from the outside.

Given the wall faces outside and the recent high humidity, this strongly suggests condensation or water ingress is occurring within the wall cavity, creating an ideal environment for mold. Simply cleaning the visible spots will be a temporary fix if the moisture source isn't stopped.

While you wait for management, move the wardrobe away from the wall to promote air circulation and dry the area. Do not attempt to scrub the mold yourself, as this can aerosolize spores and worsen indoor air quality.

A professional indoor health company can provide a crucial diagnostic step. They will perform a moisture survey to pinpoint the exact source of water and take air/surface samples for lab analysis to identify the mold species. This evidence is vital; it documents the extent of the problem for building management and determines the necessary remediation scope. For a hidden growth of this nature, professional remediation is often required to safely remove the contaminated materials and restore healthy conditions.
